Facilitation of open groups and forums

Group Facilitation (FG) is a set of technical skills and tools within the methodology of Process Work used to create conditions that allow a satisfactory development of the processes that are lived within the groups. Group Facilitation can contribute to:
• Improve the quality of group processes.
• Save time in terms of process efficiency and effectiveness.
• Transform conflicts into spaces for reflection and action.
• Rethink the forms of organization of the group so that equity and balance of power are effective (or to ensure equity and balance of power).
• Encourage the participation and commitment of the people involved.
This tool is aimed at different groups, entities and public and private organizations, diverse, small, large ... that find it important to find a way to challenge human conflicts, to find new ways of understanding ourselves as social beings and to make the principles of community and coexistence in diversity more sustainable.

Group Facilitation is ideal in the following contexts:
• When a group wants to achieve its goals more effectively, efficiently and sustainably.
• When making an important decision as a group, or when you want to improve decision-making processes.
• When it is intended to improve or streamline work or group meetings.
• In delicate or difficult times, when there are conflicts and a framework needs to be generated to transform them.
• At any time in group life or functioning in which the group requires building a new framework or special space in which all voices are heard.

Open Forums are democratic, structured and face-to-face meetings in which all people should feel represented. They are facilitated in a "deeply" democratic way, which means that it is a space to express the deepest dreams and feelings: "... conflict itself is the fastest way to create community ..." . They are public spaces that host open discussions on community or social issues and are an ideal framework for a community to know the great diversity of ideas and feelings of its participants.

They take their model from the ancestral rites that have emerged in one way or another in most cultures of the world. They differ from current citizen assemblies, which tend to one-dimensional formats, because they are based on the need to be able to address the complex problems of organizations and the community given that human experiences are intense, emotional, and above all, traumatic. .

We think that this type of format is important when the need arises to:

• redistribute power and give importance to the mood of the groups
• talk about different unresolved or difficult to solve issues
• respond to feelings of frustration, which we often have, due to mistrust or fear in the higher spheres of power
• Challenge the despair of achieving change
• rediscover the desire to form a community and to experience it.

Forum Plays and Punctual Actions

La Xixa prepares and presents plays by Teatre Fòrum and specific artistic actions to work on the following topics:

  • fight against racism and xenophobia

  • fight against masculinity and oppression on issues of gender and sexual diversity

  • coexistence in diversity

  • citizen participation, leadership and group conflicts

  • community coexistence

  • the current refugee crisis

  • coexistence, the fight against bullying and against any form of discrimination in education

A forum play is based on a performance of a short scene that explains the conflict, but in this "anti-model" performance, the protagonist gives in to this conflict. That is why the facilitator of the session then invites the spectators to go on stage to replace and improve the actions of the protagonist. Thus, the participants, through their performances on stage with the other actors, can intervene and propose their thoughts, desires, strategies and solutions to suggest to the other spectators a series of alternatives for action. The scene is reinterpreted as many times as the different interventions proposed by the audience. The feasibility of each proposed solution is then debated and analyzed. In fact, the participant, on stage, is preparing for a rehearsal of reality: "The show is the beginning of a necessary social transformation and not a moment of balance. The end is the beginning! " (Augusto Boal 2006)

Individual support

These are one-hour sessions with a facilitator who helps people become more aware of the processes that are happening in their lives and to be able to make useful learnings for everyday life.

The facilitators are Meritxell Martinez and / or Adrián Crescini.

Why do we do it? To be more at the service of people, to support and feel freer and to be able to connect with the sense of our presence in the world.

For more than 10 years of experience we have developed various group, community and work projects with people, appreciating the diversity within us and in the world. We are curious, we love to learn, research, search, and we love to take it into action.

Our approach is based on the principles of Process Work or Process Oriented Psychology. Each session has a different look, depending on who we are with, the circumstances and the context. It is about playing and working with dreams, bodily symptoms, voice and movement, drawing or role-playing. It’s also about listening, talking, laughing, crying, because we always learn something from it.

The relationship between you and the facilitator is the most important component, we know that without the deepest appreciation of who you are, our work will not work.

How are the sessions? The processes can be long or short term. They can be used to solve a problem or for continuous personal and awareness growth.

The individual sessions are of one hour and the relational ones of an hour and a half.

Our areas of specialization include: depression, anxiety, internalized oppression, professional development, creativity training; working with relationships, accompanying couples, gender issues, and cultural diversity, among others.

What can be achieved with individualized accompaniment sessions is:

  • Discover what keeps you from moving forward.

  • Replace limiting belief systems with new creative options.

  • Learn to overcome obstacles and increase your sense of empowerment.

  • Connect with experiences from your life and make your story make sense.

  • Getting connected with yourself in the midst of crisis and uncertainty.

  • Understand some of the mechanisms that lead you to uncertainty.
